Former NBA star and Duke basketball legend JJ Redick recently discussed a turning point in his podcast whereby he realized, his current teammate of Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker, a standout player for the Phoenix Suns, had a remarkable killer instinct, much like the late Kobe Bryant. Recalling a game from his time as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, Redick vividly detailed a play in which he skillfully countered Booker’s high pick and roll.
Booker completed a number of Kobe-like shot fakes in spite of Redick’s tight defense before making a disputed three-pointer that was in the hoop. Booker’s drive was evident to Redick, who was known for his keen shooting skills and fierce personality. Redick called Booker a “f**king killer.” Given that Redick and Booker had comparable playing styles, this revelation becomes even more significant.
“He had that his rookie year. I remember guarding me and us going at it; he’s as competitive as anyone. Legitimately, I was like, ‘Oh, this guy, he’s got it’. I remember we had a game in Philly my first year there. He runs a high pick and roll. I defend it as well as can defend it, and he picks up the ball, and he does that Book thing where he does the Kobe shot fake two or three times and then just launches a three over me off balance, well defended, well contested, and it goes in. Then I look at him, and I see in his eyes that he’s a f*cking killer,” JJ Redick stated.
During the podcast, JJ Redick and his guest, former teammate Cam Johnson, delved into Booker’s status as a genuine superstar and discussed his potential as a primary scoring option for a championship-level team.
Devin Booker’s Olympic pledge: Embracing supportive role for Team USA in 2024 Games, responds Kyle Kuzma
Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns has offered to play a supporting role for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in response to recommendations from Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards. Kuzma had highlighted that in order for some of the nation’s top players to win a gold medal, they would need to take on smaller roles. Booker stated that he would be willing to support the national team even though he was a standout player for the Suns last season, averaging excellent stats
LeBron James made this announcement in the wake of claims from Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic that he plans to play in one more Olympics and is aggressively seeking out elite athletes like Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. After placing fourth at the World Cup, Team USA’s prospects of victory might be greatly increased with such a talented squad.
The prospect of established stars like Booker accepting secondary roles highlights the potential for an unparalleled assembly of talent, a move that could make the Americans formidable contenders for the gold medal. With players like Booker willing to adapt, the US is poised to vie for its fifth consecutive Olympic gold, building a roster rich in experience and talent with veterans like Durant and James contributing their expertise.
