Victor Wembanyama has impressed fans around the league by showing that he can go toe-to-toe with the best players. He has been tested multiple times this season, but his most challenging test came in the form of the NBA’s Slim Reaper, a.k.a. Kevin Durant. Wemby was often compared to Durant when he played in the French League, and he finally faced off against him.

When the two squared off, Durant showcased why he was a former league MVP and a 2-time Finals MVP. Despite Durant’s size disadvantage against Wembanyama, he didn’t allow Wemby to exploit his huge wingspan. KD limited Wemby to just 2 of 7 shooting, with only 1 of 4 from three. Additionally, he stole the ball from Wembanyama once and caused him to commit 4 turnovers by the end of the third quarter.

Durant also executed a play where he maneuvered Wembanyama from the three-point line to the restricted area, hitting a mid-range shot over Wembanyama, who couldn’t block it. Being guarded by Wembanyama, Durant exploited the matchup against the rookie, aiding the Suns in leading the game by 14 points until the end of the third quarter.

Despite this, on Halloween night, the Suns almost had a haunting experience by letting a once-comfortable lead slowly dwindle to just four points in the late stages of the fourth quarter. This came after they had enjoyed a 20-point advantage over San Antonio. Eventually, they lost the game 115-114 in a frantic finish.

With KD carrying the heavy offensive load due to the absence of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Suns have dropped to a 2-2 record to start the season.
