Kevin Durant and LeBron James are undeniably among the most exceptional players of their generation, renowned for their remarkable basketball skills and playmaking abilities. Nevertheless, the legendary Boston Celtics player Kevin Garnett suggests a strategic shift for both Durant and James in light of the evolving landscape of the game and the influx of talented new players.

In the new Ticket and Truth episode by Showtime Basketball, Garnett said, “LeBron and KD, it’s time for them to be spot up. We gave the ball to them for ages…Can they play off the ball once? Can they go in the corner and now someone makes a play for them.”  In Garnett’s view, the time has come for Durant and LeBron to pass on the responsibility of ball-handling to others on the team.

LeBron James is gearing up for his remarkable 21st NBA season, while Durant is entering his 17th. The staggering stats these players have amassed make it difficult to grasp that their time in the NBA is gradually winding down. When voices like Brian Windhorst start discussing LeBron’s retirement, it forces us to confront the reality that their careers might truly be approaching an end – a bitter pill to swallow.

The roster of players entering their final years is indeed growing: Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, James Harden, and several others have dropped hints that retirement is on the horizon. Considering this, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that a new chapter in the NBA is rapidly approaching. Emerging talents like Victor Wembanyama and Luka Doncic are poised to take the lead, ushering in a fresh era of dynamic play and leadership.

Regardless of whether the Phoenix Suns or the LA Lakers have suitable options to follow Garnett’s advice, the undeniable truth remains that LeBron is LeBron and Durant is Durant. Their unmatched experience and exceptional abilities set them apart from newer players who are yet to reach their level. LeBron’s impressive averages of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, along with Durant’s 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists from the past year, firmly solidify their positions. With these remarkable statistics, it’s clear that their status in the league is untouchable.
