NBA Hall of Famer and former Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Garnett called out current Nets’ star player Kevin Durant for taking a U-turn and returning to Brooklyn. Kevin doesn’t understand why Durant returned to Brooklyn, especially given all his leverage around the league. Kevin was talking on an episode of ‘All the Smoke’ by Showtime Basketball.

Kevin Garnett said, “KD didn’t get traded. Lowkey controlled his movement. Do you know why they didn’t love it? Because he got the leverage himself.” He added, “You understand what I’m saying? I heard him almost going back to Golden State, I heard that. I heard that was a real thing. I couldn’t understand it, I’ve never seen a situation where a guy tells the owner, a b, and c of it, and then it don’t get done, and the guy is [like], ‘okay cool, I’m coming back’.”

The Kyrie Irving contract extension ended with Kyrie agreeing to stay with the Nets for one more season. On the other hand, Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, with reports suggesting that he didn’t like the team’s direction and wanted both general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash thrown out. However, after several weeks of trying to find a trade, the Nets and KD decided to move forward with his trade request and wait back with the Nets team.

The Brooklyn Nets’ 2021-22 season was a mess. Star player Kevin Durant was so discouraged that he wanted to be traded. Even Kyrie Irving was so unrealistic that he didn’t get a contract beyond the 2022-2023 NBA season. But the duo is back now, which boosts the Brooklyn Nets’ chances of making it to the playoffs. Kevin Durant stated, “A year of us looking in the mirror, like, we (messed) up as a team and that only makes you better. So, I’m banking on that. I’ve got faith in that.”

On the other hand, Kyrie Irving said, “I don’t want to have any doubts, or any regrets. “Just going to let our actions lead, we’ve talked enough.” The Brooklyn Nets are serious contenders for the title and it will be interesting to see how they go about their business when the regular season begins.
