“You gotta be the big homie” Kevin Garnett offers golden advice to Draymond Green after punching Jordan Poole

NBA legend Kevin Garnett understands Draymond Green’s frustration when he became enraged at Jordan Poole during a recent Golden State Warriors practice; however, he does not approve of his method of keeping his teammates in check. Green punched Poole during the practice, as every NBA fan is probably aware. After a video of the punch surfaced, the incident quickly went viral. Dray has since apologized to the young guard for the altercation, and it appears that the Warriors as a whole are moving on from the unfortunate turn of events. In his KG Certified show, Garnett gave Green some sound advice on how to avoid such violence in the future.

As a former champion of the Boston Celtics, he admitted that he witnessed their “second group” become so arrogant after winning the title that they needed to be checked. Having said that, Garnett emphasized the need for greater patience. “You have to be a little more patient. You gotta be the big homie, so some of that you have to take, some of that you have to pull a dude to the side and have one-on-one and get a lot more from that,” Garnett shared. “Do you want some real results? Pull them to the side. Y’all get in small confinement and then talk. Then see how that conversation goes. And that usually is your best result.”

In the short term, it appears that Draymond Green‘s altercation with teammate Jordan Poole will not destabilise the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty.  Poole signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the team over the weekend, keeping him under team control for the next five seasons. Shortly after, the Warriors signed Andrew Wiggins to a four-year, $109 million extension, lowering the likelihood of Green receiving the maximum contract extension he sought.

Green has technically forfeited nothing, as he is still set to earn $25.8 million this season and another $27.6 million next season if he chooses to enter the final year of his contract. Warriors general manager Bob Myers put everything into context, saying: “Draymond is in an excellent position. He also has a player option. It’s an excellent position for a player. You are in charge of your own destiny. I don’t detect any issues or problems with that. I imagine he’s going to have a fantastic year.”

Poole and Green appear to have reached an agreement that will allow them to work together peacefully for the time being. Poole was coy in his post-extension press conference on Sunday, giving an in-and-out recap of the situation, saying Green “We apologised and intend to conduct ourselves accordingly. That’s really all I have to say about it. We’re here to win a championship and keep the banners flying.”
