Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were generally in firm agreement on the court, back during their playing days. However, that may not always be true in their retirement.
During a recent episode of KG Certified, NBA legend and one of the greatest power forwards of all time, Kevin Garnett, firmly disagreed with former teammate and co-host Paul Pierce. This disagreement arose when Pierce made a statement concerning the Detroit Pistons in light of their struggles in the current league season.
This season, the Detroit Pistons hold the unfortunate title of being the worst team in the league, managing only four wins against a staggering 37 losses. Their struggle reached a milestone with a 28-game losing streak, equaling the NBA’s all-time record for consecutive losses set by the Philadelphia 76ers. However, the Pistons managed to break this streak with a triumphant 129-127 home game victory against the Toronto Raptors.
The argument was about the topic, of “partying after a loss.” Paul Pierce initially said the following:
You know how it is. We been on teams that like damn when sh*t ain't right and then like any little thing get dissected, like, 'ah. he was out partying the last night'. Or this and then now it become public. It's too much for a team to overcome
At this point, KG interrupted and responded:
When you are losing and you out partying, then that says what it is, and you should get blasted.
Despite the Pistons’ challenging season, Paul Pierce remained resolute, stating that even if he were on a team that experienced a ten-game losing streak, he would still find time to party and enjoy his life. In response, Kevin Garnett characterized this mindset as a “losing mentality.”
KG Certified, a Showtime Basketball series, is hosted by NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. The show presents one-on-one interviews with some of the most prominent names in basketball and beyond, offering an insightful glimpse into the lives and stories of these influential individuals.
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce discuss the Boston Celtics
Presently, the Boston Celtics lead the NBA with an impressive record of 32 wins and 9 losses. Their dominance extends to their home court, where they remain undefeated with 20 wins this season. This remarkable home performance has positioned them at the 11th spot for the best home start to an NBA campaign in history.
The performances have impressed the duo of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, with the latter noting:
They believe they can beat anybody, no matter who they put out there, and that's what I'm seeing as the difference.
The Celtics this season have the most wins and least losses as they top the Eastern Conference standings. That has largely been down to the rampant form of their All-Star duo, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.
