In the 90s and 2000s, players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant would terrorize every game they played, leaving stories for future generations to learn from. Nowadays, players who competed against Kobe and MJ describe how scared they were to play against them. Players strive to earn the respect of the all-time greats. Recently, an active star player refuted the idea that anyone would care if Kobe didn’t respect them.
De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings is among the most exciting players in the NBA. He became the franchise’s face, leading them to their first playoff appearance in 20 years last season. De’Aaron is known for being blunt about his views, which he frequently expresses while interacting with fans on social media. Recently, during a Twitter exchange with fans about how playing sports is also a job, his take on Kobe differed from that of many other players.
Fox wrote, “Lmao I can tell you with 100% certainty that nobody would care if Kobe disagreed with them. With all due respect to a legend.” The blunt nature of Fox’s comments did not sit well with some fans.
The topic arose after Stephen Jackson commented that winning was more important than earning money. Many fans disagreed with the notion, and De’Aaron agreed. One fan then pointed out that prioritizing money over winning would not earn him respect from Kobe. To this, Fox replied that no one would care if Kobe disagreed.

What did Stephen Jackson say that made De’Aaron Fox disrespect Kobe Bryant?
When a player is signed to the NBA, their life usually changes. Playing in the NBA is one of the hardest things to do, and players are fairly compensated for achieving that. Some players have a mindset to win and not care about anything else.
On the other hand, some use it to secure their lives, as no one knows when an injury can affect a player and make them lose the opportunity to earn a big contract. Former NBA player Stephen Jackson thought that only thinking about earning money in the NBA was a loser mindset. Many other players disagree with him, including De’Aaron Fox.
Jackson, who won a single championship with the San Antonio Spurs as a role player, talked about how he would be happy with earning $50 million instead of $200 million if he could win a ring. He said many players did not share the same mindset as him and were losers if they chose money over winning. While a championship ring solidifies the legacy of many players, for some, it doesn’t really do anything, as they won’t even be mentioned when someone talks about the championship win.
