The Sacramento Kings couldn’t have asked for a more promising series opener in their first playoff game in 17 years. Playing hosts to the Golden State Warriors, the Kings put up a stellar display of basketball for their home fans. Sacramento trailed for the first half of the game while the defending champions looked pretty solid. However, in a fantastic comeback after halftime, the Kings outscored the Warriors. The game went to the last second with Stephen Curry missing an open clutch three-pointer to tie the game.
The Kings have had an extremely impressive 2022-23 season. Their offensive plays left opponents baffled and viewers surprised throughout the year. Needless to say that they have been one of the most appreciated teams this season. With Domantas Sabonis leading them through it all, the Kings were expected to give the Warriors a tough competition. While all eyes were on Sabonis, it was Sacramento’s point guard who caught the attention. De’Aaron Fox scored a staggering 38 points, leading the Kings in the fourth quarter to a nail-biting victory.
Well, what brings the excitement aboard is the Kings’ offbeat ‘Light the Beam’ celebration. The Sacramento-based franchise started this ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season. Its purpose is to mark a win by the Sacramento Kings after they defeat a visiting team at home. Although it was introduced in September 2022, the beam was lit on October 29. The beam is a strong jet of lavender color light that shoots up from the roof of Golden1 center.
The media, initially, didn’t fancy this unique move by the organization. Sacramento had been a rather dormant team in the previous years and many made fun of the new beam concept. However, after the Kings beat the Brooklyn Nets, fans, and media started looking at it with a new sense of hope. “Light the Beam!” has now become a chant for the Kings who are also known as ‘The Beam Team.’
How is social media reacting to the Sacramento Kings’ game 1 victory?
Fans are bringing on the celebrations after the game 1 victory in Sacramento. The ‘Light the Beam’ chants are all over the place as the Kings registered their first playoff game win in 17 years.
In addition to the Sacramento Kings’ sweet run this year, their head coach Mike Brown is also the NBCA Coach of the Year. Brown was previously an assistant coach at Golden State Warriors. Quite visibly, he seems to have brought the Warriors’ winning mantra to Sacramento. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr even spoke about Brown’s achievements as the Kings’ coach. He spoke about how the organization misses Brown but felt happy about his achievements.
The Kings will look to continue their winning streak against the Warriors and make it 2-0 in the next game. The Warriors, however, know how to bounce back from any and every tough situation. From the first game itself, this series has promised to be full of action and excitement.
