“Get rid of him” Knicks looking to get rid of Julius Randle after chasing Jalen Brunson
Julius Randle has had a great run with the New York Knicks since arriving in 2019. He was major reason towards their success in recent years especially after living at the bottom of the barrel for long. This season they finished 11th in the Eastern Conference falling short of making a back to back playoff appearance. The season witnessed much more competitive basketball when compared to last year and even though they did not have a rough season, they just were not good enough.
They concluded with a record of 37 wins and 45 losses this past season. Derricks Rose’s availability was a major setback for the Knicks. The player did not play for long after suffering an ankle injury in December. This season was a complete turnaround from last year after they finished 5th in the division. They made their first playoffs appearance in eight years but lost in round one versus the Atlanta Hawks.
Julius Randle’s slump became one for biggest issue for the New York Knicks
Julius Randle became an All-Star with the Knicks last season after putting him very efficient numbers consistently. He averaged 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. But in the recent season, he did not fare as well as he did. The player experienced a massive dip in consistently and often got involved outside issues more than his performance.
In the middle of the season, when people started pointing out his obscure performance on court, he said, “I have to be better. Everybody has to be better. I’ll take responsibility for the team. I’ll take responsibility for myself. That doesn’t bother me. At the end of the day, I just wanna win. I think everybody… well, I know everybody in that locker room wants to win, too.”
New York Knicks plan on shipping Julius Randle away
As the NBA settles into the offseason many teams are now looking for ways they can help build a roster scenario or a hopeful one at the least. The Knicks have been making several changes recently in order to create more cap space for a better or much reliable piece to play alongside RJ Barrett and Obi Toppin. Julius Randle only put up 20.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assist which is a drastic dip from last season.
A little over a day ago, the front office shipped Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons. This move helped them free up approximately $20 million in cap space, enough to sign a couple of role players or a decent scorer. So far, Jalen Brunson of the Dallas Mavericks has been a main target after performing highly in the Western Conference Finals. He averaged 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He will be a player who can easily contribute much higher given the opportunity.
