“Why the f**k am I going to pass them the basketball?” Kobe Bryant explained to Phil Handy why he doesn’t pass the basketball

Kobe Bryant and Phil Handy
Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy has opened up about his conversation with legendary NBA superstar Kobe Bryant where he explained why he doesn’t use to pass the ball to certain teammates during the game.
The Lakers star Bryant who lost his life during a helicopter accident in January 2020 is no doubt the biggest gift to the world of basketball, but throughout his career, the Lakers Hall of Famer was often criticized for not focusing on game making, because of which many times his teammates despite being open on the field didn’t get the chance to score.

Kobe since he joined the NBA was known as a selfish player and this tag was with him throughout his career, but why was he like this, why he didn’t trust his teammates? The answer was given by Phil Handy.

Legendary star Kobe Bryant honest response to why he didn’t pass ball to certain players stunned the entire NBA universe

These question about Kobe’s selfishness was common during his initial years in the league, but this behavior by the former Lakers star had a deep message behind it which Handy discussed in the “All the Smoke,” podcast where he was with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s. Handy recalled a small conversation between him and Bryant where the Five-time NBA champion gave a spectacular answer to all those questions.
“His (BRYANT) realness. He was misunderstood. I asked him one time, I asked him ‘why you such an asshole?’ I asked him that and he said ‘you really want to know?” Handy asked Kobe during a practice session.

On this question by his assistant coach, Kobe replied by saying, “Phil, man, some of my teammates don’t understand the work. I see dudes walk into practice 10 minutes before practice and they leave right after, why the f*** am I gonna pass them the basketball? I don’t respect their work ethic, I’m in here busting my ass every day trying to perfect my craft and these dudes don’t want to work on their game, I don’t trust them. So, I’m not gonna pass them the basketball, I’m gonna ride them hard every day.”

It is sure that there will be no great player like Kobe Bryant and his mamba mentality where he focused his whole career more on work ethic and wanted his teammates to do so. Although Kobe was called a selfish player, he never failed to help other players who asked him for it.
