Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas
Kwame Brown recently spoke out about his disdain for fellow former Washington Wizards player Gilbert Arenas. Brown made it clear that he has no respect for Arenas and thinks he is a detriment to their community. In an appearance on ‘The Pivot Podcast’, Kwame Brown made some bold comments about Gilbert Arenas. His comments are an indictment of Arenas and his off-the-court antics.
Kwame Brown made his thoughts on Gilbert Arenas very clear, calling him “what’s wrong with our community” and a “coward”. The full quote: “I don’t wanna talk about that guy after he mentioned putting a pistol to my throat … He’s definitely what’s wrong with our community because he’s a coward … Do you think Gilbert Arenas would say that about J.J. Redick?” The implication of this is quite damning for Arenas. Kwame Brown is basically exposing him for making a mortal threat on another man’s, his own former teammate’s life.
Brown and Arenas were with the Wizards for 4 years after joining the team at the same time. Kwame was the #1 pick in the 2001 draft while Arenas was drafted in the same year in the 2nd round. Even though Brown was supposed to be the superstar, it was the other way around with Gilbert Arenas being the one that became the elite NBA guard while Kwame Brown became known as the biggest bust in draft history. Clearly, those 4 years as teammates weren’t rosy as these two have come to blows with each other in public before as well.
Previous public clashes between Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas
The relationship between Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas is rocky, to say the least. The two have repeatedly expressed over the internet, their disdain for one another. The most infamous incidence of this is perhaps the 7-minute-long video of Kwame Brown bashing the aforementioned Arenas, Stephen Jackson, and Matt Barnes. The compilation of clips is from an IG live rant from Brown after Arenas’ appearance on the latter two’s ‘All the Smoke’ podcast.
Arenas have also spoken about Brown multiple times, the biggest, most unfiltered example of what Arenas thinks about Brown came when he accused Brown of alcoholism. No-chill Gil went as far as to blame Brown’s dependence on alcohol as the reason why he didn’t succeed in the NBA.
Arenas said “I can be honest now. We’re not friends. He was a fuc***g drunk, man. That’s what Kwame Brown was. Had a bad game, drunk. Had a good game, drunk. Was bored, drunk. It’s how he coped with life.” Clearly, there’s no love lost between the two. And this might not even be the last of their very public war of words against each other.
