Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert

Draymond Green is never shy to share his opinions on anything related to the NBA. The Golden State Warriors forward recently gave his take on the heated exchange between Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert and Kyle Anderson that resulted in Gobert punching his own teammate.

Green discussed the incident on his podcast “The Draymond Green Show”. He said that he saw the video of what happened and heard what Anderson said to Gobert which triggered his reaction.

There are just some words you just don’t say to me, so when I saw the choice of words, that is the b*tch word,” Green said. “Kyle Anderson using towards Rudy Gobert, you do have to be ready for what comes after that. You’re just not allowed to disrespect guys and say whatever you want. Again, Kyle Anderson said the words a lot of people think, HE SAID IT.

He added, “I personally think Rudy Gobert is a little on the softer side. Myself, [he] gained a little respect from me because he stood up for himself. I’ve never really seen the guy stand up for himself, didn’t really know the guy was capable of standing up for himself. Unfortunately, doesn’t really work, take it from me, I know how that goes.

Green and Gobert have a history of exchanging jabs and insults. In October, Green mocked Gobert after he commented on Green’s fight with his teammate Jordan Poole at practice. Green also made fun of Gobert’s tears when he missed the All-Star team in 2019.

Gobert’s punch could greatly impact the Timberwolves’ playoff chances. The Timberwolves secured the No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament with their win over the Pelicans, but they lost Gobert for the rest of the game and possibly longer.

The team sent him home for his “unacceptable” behavior and said they would handle the situation internally. Gobert later apologized on Twitter, saying he loved and respected Anderson as a teammate. But the NBA could still suspend Gobert for his actions, which would leave the Timberwolves without their three-time Defensive Player of the Year and their best rim protector.

The Timberwolves are already missing their backup center Naz Reid and their best perimeter defender Jaden McDaniels, who broke his hand after punching a wall during the same game.

The Timberwolves will face the Los Angeles Lakers in the play-in tournament on Tuesday. The Lakers have LeBron James and Anthony Davis back from injuries and are the favorites to win the game. The Timberwolves will need all the help they can get to pull off an upset, but Gobert’s punch may have ruined their chances.
