In a viral video, Robert Griffin III made a perplexing statement about Kyle Lowry that left many questioning its context and relevance. Griffin exclaimed, “I can’t wait to get in the thick of one of the greatest college football traditions in the world…I’m getting in the thick of it like Kyle Lowry.” This seemingly unsolicited remark has raised several eyebrows.

While discussing a tradition where college football teams are greeted on the South Side of the field by their alumni and fans, Griffin III took an unexpected dig at Lowry’s weight. The Miami Heat star has seemed to be on the heavy side of the weight scale during his NBA career. Whether or not the jibe was planned is a question to be answered later. But one thing is for sure: this verbal jab has turned some heads.

This isn’t the first instance of Griffin taking a swipe at Lowry, as a year ago, during a live game commentary, a notable exchange occurred between him and his fellow commentators – “Thicker than a Snickers…Supersize that order…Is that Kyle Lowry?…McThickems”. A month ago, too, Griffin took a jibe at Lowry’s weight while referencing 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

In what appeared to be a highly unusual blow to Kyle Lowry’s dignity, the situation grew even more perplexing as Twitter users, now labeled as “X,” reacted with a mixture of shock and bewilderment to Griffin’s remarks.

Regardless, Baylor lost to the Utes 20-13. While this might have put a smile on Lowry’s face, it still might not have been enough to recover from the uncalled stray towards him. Regardless, fans just might have seen a new fun rivalry forming, and it will be interesting to see if this banter continues.
