“Still dealing with it” Kyle Lowry drops truth bomb on personal struggles which spoilt his 2021-22 campaign
Kyle Lowry at Miami Heat
Kyle Lowry was spotted in Toronto yet again but this time not for any deal or perhaps a on vacation but to attend a charity golf tournament held by his former coach Nick Nurse. Former Raptors guard Lowry faced the press after his Eastern conference finals exit back in May. He admitted that some off-the-court issues were eating him up this past season. Lowry played 63 games in the regular season, and though he was fully fit, he missed a series of games due to personal issues. Lowry once again refused to comment on the issues but confirmed that he would share the same when the time is right.
When the Miami Heat acquired veteran point guard Kyle Lowry last summer, it was seen by many as the best and most significant offseason addition by any team in the NBA. An efficient and hardworking guard fits in perfectly in Miami’s structure, despite crossing his 30s. But his performance and impact weren’t perhaps quite what Heat fans expected.
Kyle Lowry had a subpar 2022 season with Miami Heat and is a regular mention in various trade rumors.
2019 NBA champion Kyle Lowry came to South beach with a lot of optimism. 6-time All-Star made a huge impact back in the Raptor’s championship run and was also a huge contributor in later seasons, but his so-far stay with Miami Heat did not replicate his past performances. Lowry remained the 4th highest scorer (13 points average) in the team but dished out 8 assists per game.
Though those were somewhat remarkable stats for a 35-year-old player; Lowry was not a normal player that Miami invested in. While at Miami Heat, Lowry did miss several games around midseason due to what was called a family issue, although no specifics were given at the time.
He got off to a lackluster start in the fall, at least in terms of his shooting efficiency, although he picked things up and shot the ball very well following his absence. The Miami Heat, despite much adversity, managed to reach the No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference with help of their depth.
Coach Erik Spoelstra told Miami Herald‘s Anthony Chiang regarding Kyle’s situation, “We understand all the things that we’re missing,” But this is bigger than that. We stay connected. I communicate with him every day and everybody else, as well. He’s a part of our family now and we just want to be there for him. The basketball stuff, we can work that all out.”
It was hoped that Kyle Lowry’s presence would be the missing piece to the championship puzzle come playoff time, but a hamstring injury hampered him and forced him to miss multiple postseason contests. With the guard ailing, the Heat lost the Eastern Conference Finals in seven games to the Boston Celtics.
The Philadelphia native, when he was right this past season, showed signs of developing into a glue guy for Miami, and even in his mid-30s, his ball-handling, passing, defense, and hustle seemed to have an impact.
He is under contract for two more seasons with the Miami Heat, although if the Heat decides to make a strong push for either Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell, Lowry could leave South Florida to make a deal happen. He would be a sure make-weight in either of the trade.
