Jason Kidd, the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, mocks Christian Wood, suggesting that the team, without him, is filled with nothing but winners.

Christian Wood is being considered a key piece for the Lakers after they signed him this offseason. Conversely, during his last season with the Dallas Mavericks, there was a different discussion about him. He was constantly criticized for being a big man who could only play on the offensive side of the court and couldnβt hold his own on the defensive end.
He was traded from the Houston Rockets and was considered an important piece for them. The problem was that Coach Jason Kidd hadnβt approved the trade. So, when the season started, he hadn’t considered Wood as a starter and began with Dwight Powell instead. Wood was benched and played very few minutes for Dallas last season.
Christian Wood was frustrated as he saw himself as a star, but Coach Kidd didnβt like his attitude and didnβt play him. Coach Kidd made indirect comments about Wood during the Mavericks’ media day, where he said the team was now full of winners who don’t complain about playing fewer minutes.
Kidd said, βEverybodyβs excited. Everybodyβs a winner right now,β on the Mavericksβ Media Day. βNo oneβs talking about the minutes theyβre not playing and the shots theyβre not taking.β
Christian Wood motivated after underwhelming stint with the Dallas Mavericks
Christian Wood had an underwhelming stretch with the Dallas Mavericks last season as he didn’t play much due to Coach Jason Kidd not considering him a starter. This led to drama between the two, and Wood was let go after the season.

His value had significantly declined, and he didn’t receive many offers from teams. The Lakers signed him on a minimum contract and have given him a chance to prove himself.
When discussing his future with the Lakers, he said that after what Dallas did to his reputation, he is motivated to play next season. Wood said, ”Iβll be playing a significant role, and Darvin Ham knows what I can do. I’m looking forward to this and am certainly motivated after what Dallas did.β
