From there, he was transported to UCLA Hospital, where he is under constant supervision. Abdul-Jabbar’s longtime business partner, Deborah Morales, speaking with TMZ said;
We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site, and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now.
A broken hip usually takes at least 12 weeks to heal. After that, with proper care and recovery, it will take around six months to get back to their best.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is currently the NBA’s second-all-time in scoring after being passed by LeBron James earlier this year. The 19-time All-Star and 6-time league MVP has been widely regarded as one of the best players of all time. His 14 seasons and 5 championships with the Los Angeles Lakers have put him on the Laker’s best players of all-time list. He is also a Milwaukee Bucks legend, having won the franchise’s first NBA championship in 1971.
The Los Angeles Lakers great has been the face of NBA history after his retirement in 1989. Seen sitting courtside during several games, Abdul-Jabbar is basketball royalty. A UCLA Bruin Hall Of Famer, Abdul-Jabbar is currently under treatment at his Alma Mater.
A long line of health concerns for Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was never plagued with injuries during his playing career. But later in life, he has battled several health conditions. He generally suffers from migraines. In 2009 he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. After regular treatment with oral medicine in 2011 Abdul-Jabbar declared that his leukemia was at the minimum.
In 2015 on his 68th birthday, he underwent quadruple coronary bypass surgery after being admitted at UCLA Hospital with cardiovascular disease. In 2023 he was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. He has also revealed in the past about his battle with Prostate Cancer.
With a long line of health issues, basketball fans around the world will be hoping this hip fracture will not deter the NBA legend in his life going forward.
