“These refs aren’t serious” – Lakers fans in DISBELIEF after Anthony Davis gets technical foul for complaining about elbow to private parts

The Los Angeles Lakers survived a scare in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies, winning 117-111 after overtime to extend their lead to 3-1. LeBron James was the star of the show for his side, scoring 22 points and grabbing 20 rebounds, becoming the first player since Shaquille O’Neal in 2004 to put up 20-20 in a playoff game for the Lakers. He also became the oldest player to achieve the feat, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain, who did it at age 36.

While James was his dominant self, Anthony Davis had a quiet game on the offensive end, finishing the game with only 12 points and two assists. The Lakers superstar also suffered a hip injury during the game, that stifled his movement and left him needing medical assistance on the bench. Davis also suffered another painful injury, which he was able to shake off, but was undoubtedly extremely painful at the moment.

During the second quarter of the game, Davis caught an elbow to his private parts while guarding Desmond Bane. Davis went down on the floor as there was no call on the play. He was not happy with the referees and complained about the no-call. To infuriate him further, Davis was handed a technical foul for arguing with the officials. The play might’ve not been so clear considering the pace of the play. Regardless, it was Davis who was the victim in this play but was punished himself.

This wasn’t the first time a Lakers player caught a blow in their private parts. In Game 3, Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks accidentally hit LeBron James in his groin area and was charged with flagrant 2 and ejected from the game. Davis not only did not get a foul call, but he was also instead charged with one. Fans quickly pointed out the inconsistency in refereeing on social media:

Later in the game, Lakers guard Dennis Schröder also took a shot from Jaren Jackson Jr. to his private parts, making it three instances in two games of a Grizzlies player hitting an opponent in the groin area. Jackson was charged with a common foul, much to the frustration of the Lakers and their fans. But the team did just enough to secure the win and an almost unassailable 3-1 lead. They will head into Game 5 in Memphis with a chance to close the series.
