LeBron James
The Los Angeles Lakers have taken a huge blow to their playoff ambitions this week with the injury to LeBron James. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham gave his perspective on the news in the Lakers pre-game interview against the Grizzlies. “We gotta continue to play the right way, we gotta continue to be together and we gotta continue with the mission,” said Darvin Ham.
Darvin Ham rued about how unfortunate the time of LeBron James’ injury is but maintained that the main goal is the playoffs and that hope is still alive. “We gotta hold down the fort until he returns,” said Ham on the Laker’s responsibilities with The King out injured for an indefinite amount of time. “It’s a blow to have Bron injured but we’re gonna keep on full steam ahead,” added Ham. The Lakers coach feels this team has enough skill, quality, and hunger to make the playoffs.
“I think guys that we brought in are extremely hungry… Highly skilled, high IQ. We’re going to get DLo back soon which is a huge shot in the arm, I just see us carrying on“, said Darvin Ham on his belief in the roster for the rest of the season. D’Angelo Russell is also recovering from an ankle injury and would not play the game against Memphis and is unlikely for the Laker’s next game against OKC. The Lakers will have to dig deep to salvage this season with a playoff spot.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in for a bumpy ride heading towards the end of this regular season. Once LeBron James’ injury was confirmed the team knew they would need something special to make the playoffs and so far they have not found it. The Grizzles beat the Lakers 121-109 in a comfortable win. Ja Morant got a franchise-high 28 points in the 3rd quarter alone to steer the game in Memphis’ favor.
The electric dunker also notched his sixth triple-double of the season with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Ja has been crucial in making sure Memphis has always been the 1-3 seed this season. The Lakers did see a good performance from Anthony Davis who got 28 points and 19 rebounds but it was not enough. The Lakers lost at the end of the day due to committing 26 turnovers in the game. Memphis had only 6 turnovers all game.
The Lakers are unable to develop momentum and string wins together and sometimes it isn’t even their fault. LeBron’s injury has come at such an unfortunate time as the Lakers just went 4-1 and gained some confidence only for it to be shot down. The race for the layoffs is very tight in the West with any team from 4-13 being in the picture. The Lakers will have to step up their game or hope for a miracle to secure a playoff berth this season.
