“He is unstoppable” Lakers legend Magic Johnson issues heartfelt tribute to Manu Ginobili amid HOF induction

Manu Ginobili, the San Antonio Spurs four-time NBA champion was one of the headliners for Saturday night’s enshrinement event in Springfield, Massachusetts. Ginobili spent all 16 of his NBA seasons in San Antonio, forming a Big Three with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker that was, and undoubtedly will remain, one of the league’s greatest. Ginobili has played in more games than any other player in NBA history, and he has a greater winning percentage (72.1%).

Magic Johnson, of the Los Angeles Lakers, was one of the luminaries that handed Manu his flowers. The five-time NBA champion turned to Twitter to express his heartfelt congratulations to Ginobili, who has now joined him in the prestigious Hall of Fame, Johnson further explained how although Manu wasn’t the most skilled player on the Spurs’ roster during his stint with the team, he was a powerhouse who played an integral role in the franchise bringing home 4 championships.

After moving remarks by the other twelve members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022, it was finally time for Spurs great Manu Ginobili to deliver the event’s closing address. He was greeted with the largest round of applause of the evening. The “Manu” chanting began as soon as emcee Ahmad Rashad said his name. They made you believe they were in San Antonio.
In his speech, he expressed gratitude to Gregg Popovich and told Duncan that the coach had taught him how to lead while still being the finest player to ever play. Then he talked about how Tony Parker and he made the ideal partnership because they knew when to complement one another and when to let the other take center stage, at least for the brief moment when it was their ball instead of Duncan’s
Additionally, he gave shoutouts to people like Bruce Bowen, Matt Bonner, Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw, Michael Finley, and Fabricio Oberto, to name a few, further he acknowledged the whole Spurs organization, including Will Sevening and the equipment managers.
Ginobili was the Spurs’ all-time leader in 3-pointers made (1,495) and steals (1,392) despite being selected 57th overall in the 1999 Draft. He also finished his career third in games played (1,057), fourth in assists (4,001), fourth in free throws made (3,380), and fifth in points (14,043). He was a two-time All-Star (2005, 2011), a member of the All-NBA Third Team in 2008 and 2011, and the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2008.
