Jeanie Buss might be the most popular female in the NBA due to her being the controlling owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. The 62-year-old had taken over the reins of the team on her dad’s passing in 2013.
Taking on the role of an NBA owner thrusts you into the spotlight. This season, the Lakers are not meeting the expected standards, putting Buss under pressure from fans to remove Coach Ham from his position. Moreover, beyond the court, several old tweets by Buss have recently resurfaced, in which she was found expressing a crush on former players Tony Parker and Kevin Love.
In a tweet from the 2008-2009 season, she pointed to then-rookie Kevin Love, who the Memphis Grizzlies had drafted fifth overall and later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. As a big fan of the then Timberwolves power forward, she tweeted:
Three months later, she tweeted about him again saying:
Two years later, Love again featured in a tweet from Jeanie Buss:
The tweets were obviously posted long before she took over ownership of the Lakers in 2013. Buss is currently in a relationship with comedian Jay Mohr after previously dating former Lakers coach Phil Jackson for 4 years.
Fans react to old tweets of LA Lakers president, Jeanie Buss
It’s now very common for famous people to scrub their social media accounts of past tweets, statements, or photos that may have seemed normal before they became famous. That does not seem to be the case for the current Los Angeles Lakers owner and president, Jeanie Buss.
As expected, fans on popular social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter) caused a frenzy with their comments and reactions on seeing the old tweets of the Lakers president. A couple of fan reactions below:
After her father died in 2013, his controlling ownership of the Lakers passed to his six children via a family trust, with each sibling receiving an equal vote. Buss took over as team president and as the Lakers representative on the NBA Board of Governors.
In 2020, she became the first female controlling owner to guide her team to an NBA championship, her six NBA title overall as an owner/executive. With the Lakers currently 11th in the Western Conference standings with a record of 17-19 and just three wins in their last thirteen games, the pressure is on Buss to make tough decisions for the good of the team.
