The Los Angeles Lakers did not make a move before the trade deadline on February 8th. That led to many calling the Lakers season a loss. Even superstar LeBron James was unsure how the team would fare heading into the postseason. But the Lakers did have one roster spot open. That is, to sign for anyone who becomes available from the buyout market.
They have time till March 1st to sign anyone. And they did sign possibly the best scoring guard available. Enter Spencer Dinwiddie, the former Brooklyn Nets guard, who was traded to the Toronto Raptors, and eventually waived. Basketball fans lost their minds with this move.

Spencer Diwinddie was a sought-after player once he hit the waiver wire. Initially, it seemed Dinwiddie would prefer to rejoin the Dallas Mavericks, especially as he was seen courtside watching their game. Then, rumors of the Lakers being the frontrunners started growing louder when Dinwiddie was seen in the VIP box alongside Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. Finally, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Dinwiddie will sign for the Lakers with a mid-level exception of $1.5 million to join them.
Spencer Dinwiddie is a scoring point guard. In his career spanning 9 seasons, Dinwiddie has averaged 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. The numbers may seem to not rile up Lakers fans, but he can contribute off the bench and keep the scoring going for the Lakers.
Bench production has been the single biggest issue the Los Angeles Lakers have faced this season. In many a game, the Lakers have fallen short due to a lack of production from the younger players on the roster. This probably solves that problem a little bit. But fans are not convinced.
Basketball fans cannot make sense of Spencer Dinwiddie’s signing
According to basketball fans, this signing is a bit of a mystery. One reason could be that Dinwiddie is a liability on defense. Also, one constant throughout his career has been his inconsistency in production. The Lakers may not lean on him completely as the onus of the offense lies with their superstars.

But that did not stop fans from commenting on what they truly felt about this signing. Fans were quick to give their two cents once it was made official. Check out some of their comments below;
Basketball fans have reservations about Spencer Dinwiddie signing with the most storied franchise in basketball history. However, only time will tell how it all pans out for both parties.
