“Paris here we come!!!!!!!!” Lakers star LeBron James hypes Liverpool’s semi-final triumph over Villarreal in Champions League

LeBron James has been a massive supporter of Liverpool

LeBron James has had reason to celebrate lately, as his team made it into the finals, well at least his football team did ! Liverpool FC from the English Premier League beat Villareal 3-2 on the night, and 5-2 on aggregate, to pave their way to a 3rd UEFA Champions League Final in 5 years. The basketball legend is a part-owner of the club, and while the season of basketball brought him distress as LA Lakers crashed out of playoffs, maybe the football season can cheer him up !

The Reds will make their third finals appearance in five years, the most by any team during that period. Liverpool have been a force to reckon with under coach Jürgen Klopp, with the hopes of winning a ‘Quadruple’, (4 trophies in a season) still intact. After James expressed his excitement for Liverpool, the team’s official Twitter account took time to respond to the LA Lakers star.

LeBron James has been a supporter since 2011

LeBron James is a big Red’s fan at heart , and he is a partial owner of the club after buying 2% of its shares in 2011, and increased his ownership stake in the Merseyside club in April 2021. He is also a partner to Fenway Sports Group, while he is regularly seen wearing a Liverpool shirt or the club tracksuit.

He may not be a regular attendee at Anfield, he has been here on numerous occasions to watch Liverpool in action. He made his first visit to Anfield in October 2011, where he watched the Reds take on Manchester United. After that match, he explained to his Twitter followers how visiting Anfield cemented his love for the club.

Liverpool celebrations

“That came from the simple fact of how passionate and loyal those fans are. But to walk through the facility the day before – to see all the history and achievements was very powerful. Liverpool have won 19 league championships [in fact, they have won 18] and it meant a lot to read about King Kenny and Steven Gerrard – a hometown kid who now captains the team. And then to be at Anfield and see 40,000 fans screaming at the top of their lungs, the whole game, was an unbelievable experience for me.”

Shortly after Lebron’s tweet, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has invited NBA icon LeBron James to watch Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League final on May 28. Carragher saw the LA Lakers superstar’s tweet as an opportunity to invite him to the showpiece event in Paris, even offering the American a ticket to the game. The former Reds defender said on CBS Sport :

“LeBron, if you want to come to Paris, you can come and join us and the CBS team and you can be my guest. I’m pitchside and I want you next to us in Paris. Give us the support that we need to win that seventh European cup, come and join us big man!”

The Reds are one step away from their seventh European crown and will encounter either Manchester city or Real Madrid as their final conquest towards the European crown. They could definitely use the support of the legendary LeBron James by their side, cheering them on towards glory !
