Lakers veterans Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard could potentially join 2 time NBA champ Kevin Durant in the Nets as per anonymous East exec

Brooklyn Nets

Since Kevin Durant sought a trade from the Brooklyn Nets over two months ago, the NBA offseason has been in a holding pattern. Some free agent moves for clubs thought to be interested in Durant are still up in the air. Despite Durant’s request and ultimatum, the Nets remain committed to negotiating a contract that will hopefully bring the superstar forward back to Brooklyn

“Another negotiation is now underway between Kevin Durant and the Nets.” That separate bargaining about what it would take for him to return was a large part of his conversation with owner Joe Tsai in London approximately 10, 11 days ago. Joe Tsai and the Brooklyn Nets think they have a strong squad. They do not feel they have a viable trade option for Kevin Durant. They urge him to think about returning. But Durant has made it obvious that he does not want to play for the Nets in the present circumstances with the current coach and GM,” Brian Windhorst stated.

In their discussions to keep Durant in Brooklyn, they may consider signing a player that Durant and Kyrie Irving are known to desire to play together. Irving and Durant both made aggressive free-agent efforts for Brooklyn native Carmelo Anthony in 2019.

Carmelo Anthony is still available for signing. The experienced attacker is yet to find a squad to try his luck with, as he awaits a decent offer. He appeared to be staying with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the NBA team decided to add younger players instead to bolster their lineup. Melo remains a major name in the NBA, with the Brooklyn Nets the most recent team to express interest in securing his talents.

“They need another big guy, but they’re not feeling a lot of pressure as far as filling that spot. There are veterans they can sign this month or even early next month—Dwight Howard would be the obvious one, maybe Hassan Whiteside. Cody Zeller is out there, too. They want to see what they have with Nic Claxton, but they want some insurance there, too. And they’re going to play (Ben) Simmons there quite a bit in small ball lineups. I’d expect them to keep 14 guys, keep one spot open. There has been some talk about them signing Carmelo Anthony, maybe as a nod to Kevin Durant, but obviously that has not gotten anywhere, at least not yet.”

Should Kevin Durant remain in Brooklyn next season, the club will have a deceptively excellent squad. Their roster may be ignored after an uncertain summer, but they have a solid starting lineup and depth off the bench. Irving, Seth Curry, Kevin Durant, Royce O’Neale, and Ben Simmons, who the organisation wants to play centre, may be in the starting lineup.  Furthermore, if they add a solid backup big man like Dwight Howard or Hassan Whiteside and Carmelo Anthony, The Nets may as well end the title drought.

Another veteran linked up to latest rumours is none other than 8-time NBA all-star Dwight Howard. After assembling a historically elderly group that missed even the play-offs round previous season, the Lakers acquired just one free agent over the age of 27. (Juan Toscano-Anderson). As a result of this strategy, the Lakers did not re-sign numerous veterans from previous season, including centre Dwight Howard.

However, if the Nets are able to overcome the upheaval and compete with both KD and Kyrie on the roster next season, they would most certainly require a genuine big man. The 36-year-NBA old’s career is coming to an end, but he may get one more shot with the Nets in Brooklyn
