“Larry Bird didn’t say we broke Mike” – Shannon Sharpe BASHES former champion for claiming Celtics ‘broke’ LeBron James

Former NBA player Kevin Garnett made waves in a 2019 appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast when he claimed that the Boston Celtics caused LeBron James to leave his hometown team and join the Miami Heat by “breaking” him in the playoffs. Garnett spoke about his experiences playing against James in 2010 and 2012, stating that the Celtics did not fear James and did not think he could beat all five of them.

Garnett’s comments were met with criticism from some in the basketball world, including sports analyst Shannon Sharpe, who called Garnett a “fool” for suggesting that the Celtics didn’t fear James. Sharpe also pointed out that Garnett insulting James for leaving Cleveland to form a big three in Miami is hypocritical, as Garnett did the same thing by joining the Celtics.

“KG sounds like a fool. Think about what he just said, he said the C’s didn’t fear LeBron because we didn’t feel he could beat our five. He’s talking about three first ballot Hall of Famers, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce… trying to beat a 24, 25 year old LeBron James,” Sharpe said on Undisputed. “I’ve never seen so many players have so much negativity about LeBron. It’s cause they hate greatness.”

Sharpe also compares Garnett’s comment to two other legendary players Larry Bird and Michael Jordan saying, “Larry Bird didn’t say we broke Mike.”

“The C’s, we didn’t give a f**k about LeBron,” Garnett said. “We didn’t fear LeBron. And we didn’t think he could beat all five of us, and that’s how it felt.”

While some may disagree with Garnett’s assessment of the Celtics’ dominance over James, it is clear that the two players had a rivalry on the court that spanned several seasons.

Regardless of what one thinks of Garnett’s claims about James, it is undeniable that James has left an unfading mark on the NBA. From his early days with the Cleveland Cavaliers to his current stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, James has consistently been one of the league’s most exciting and impactful players.

James’ decision to leave Cleveland in 2010 and join the Miami Heat was a controversial one, but it ultimately paid off with two championships in four years. His return to Cleveland in 2014 was met with excitement and hope, and he delivered on his promise to bring a championship to the city in 2016.

In addition to his success on the court, James has also been a vocal advocate for social justice and equality. He has used his platform to speak out on issues like police brutality, voting rights, and education, and has established organizations like the LeBron James Family Foundation to help underserved communities.
