In a heated episode of their well-known podcast, “Separation Anxiety”, power couple Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan, took diverging stances on the recent controversy involving the Spanish soccer federation head, Luis Rubiales, and player Jenni Hermoso.

The incident which has drawn widespread criticism saw Rubiales planting an unexpected kiss on Hermoso during the celebrations of a historic championship victory. FIFA has since suspended Rubiales following Hermoso’s accusations of sexual assault.

Pippen was quick to condemn Rubiales’ actions, highlighting the inappropriate nature of the kiss and the power dynamics at play. In her remarks, she indicated that the cultural argument does not excuse the violation of personal boundaries. She empathized with Hermoso, pointing out the potentially paralyzing effects of such encounters where the victim might feel voiceless against a person holding a position of power.

“I feel like a lot of times women are put in situations where you feel like this person is powerful and you don’t have a voice. She probably didn’t know what to do, everybody is looking,” Pippen commented, standing firm on her belief that the act was unjustifiable.

Jordan, on the other hand, while not directly supporting Rubiales, attempted to bring a different angle to the discussion. He mentioned that the excitement of winning their first championship might have influenced Rubiales’ judgement, making him unaware of the gravity of his actions. Jordan also made reference to cultural differences in expressions of affection, implying that what happened might be viewed differently from diverse cultural lenses.

“You know how excited sometimes people get when they win their first championship. And so, you know, I don’t think he was necessarily aware of what he was doing,” Jordan stated, trying to bring a broader perspective to the conversation.

However, his arguments were strongly opposed by Pippen, who maintained that the kiss was a breach of personal boundaries, irrespective of cultural norms or the happiness of winning. Pippen labelled the act as coming from “a perverted culture”, refusing to accept any justification for the inappropriate behaviour.
