A controversial call towards the end of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ disappointing 108-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday clouded the game. LeBron James believed that on his 39th birthday, he added another significant achievement to his legacy. LeBron tied the game with a long-distance jumper while the Lakers were behind by three points. At first, it appeared to be a two-point shot, and the officials recommended as much.
With 3.3 seconds left, James made what he thought was a game-tying three-pointer. But the league’s replay center confirmed the ruling that it was a two-pointer. The officials did not change their initial choice. LeBron saw that his foot was not in fact on the line, though, as he was standing close to the replay monitor. After LeBron angrily demanded that the referees review the call and reverse it, they adamantly refused.
In the video uploaded by LegendZ on X, it can be seen what Tony brothers and LeBron James talked about. Tony Brother said:
That's a two-point field goal. That's what the replay center ruled, not me.Tony Brother to LeBron James
After the brother’s statement, James replied:
That's bullsh*t, look at the fuc*ng replay.LeBron James’ reply
With LeBron’s three points, the Lakers had rightfully forced overtime in this match. They fought hard throughout. LeBron seemed enraged by the call, which directly led to the Lakers’ 108-106 defeat. Throughout the game, he had trouble with the officials’ whistles. The T’Wolves are the conference’s top team and the No. 1 seed in the West, so this would have been LA’s biggest victory of the year.
LeBron James criticized the Officials for making that call
LeBron James, who is 39 years old, had a strong 26-point performance against the Timberwolves to continue his good play. He made 10 of his 21 shots as the game went on, improving his shooting from a slow start. In addition, he had three steals, three rebounds, and six assists. But fell short in a controversial manner to the Timberwolves after the referees determined that James’s potential game-winning basket was only a two-pointer.
From the locker room, he went after the officials. LeBron James said:
It's obviously a 3. My foot was inside the line. You can see the space between the front of my foot and the 3-point line. Stevie Wonder could see that, champ. Somebody over there eating a ham sandwich made the call.LeBron James about the officials
He then thanked the NBA for the birthday present on Instagram and included a visual aid.
James claimed he was sick when he woke up and remained in bed until 4:30 p.m., at which point he prepared to leave for the arena. The Lakers visit New Orleans on Sunday afternoon for the second game of a back-to-back. James stated that he would put it off to see how he felt the next day and was not sure if he would be ready to play on Sunday.
