The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 Championship in the most dire circumstances, as they were competing during the COVID-19 pandemic inside the NBA Bubble. LeBron James led the Lakers against the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat to win the Lakers their first championship in a decade. James was awarded his fourth Finals MVP as he dominated the series with 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists.
Many people try to discredit the championship due to the fact that the Lakers didn’t play against a crowd, while some argue that it was the hardest ring to win, as many players were playing at the highest level of their careers. James’ agent and longtime friend, Rich Paul, commented on people who discredit his bubble championship on a recent episode of Gil’s Arena. Paul took a jab at Stephen Curry, who is probably James’ biggest rival in his career while making the statement as well.
Paul said many people discredit the Lakers’ 17th Championship because James won that title. He added that if Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors had won in the Bubble, Steph and the Warriors wouldn’t be facing the same scrutiny James is currently facing. Paul said, “If Steph wins in the bubble, do they discredit it?” he said. “No, they don’t.”

Many people discredit Stephen Curry’s achievements, especially in the narrative that he has only won one Finals MVP despite winning four championships and losing after having a 3-1 lead against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals. However, when Rich Paul commented contradicting that Curry wouldn’t be discredited for winning a championship, fans latched onto it to discredit Curry and his achievements.
