LeBron James is no stranger to investments and even investing in sports teams. He has many businesses around the globe and currently has stakes in the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool FC. But now he is widening his wings and now invested in a new soccer team, this time from Italy. According to the Financial Times, a deal for the prized Serie A team – AC Milan is expected to be completed shortly for approximately $1.2 billion. AC Milan has a new round of investments from U.S. private equity group RedBird, with LeBron James and Drake as part investors for the same. Drake is expected to be a passive investor in A.C. Milan as are the rest of his high-profile teammates in on the deal.
The New York Yankees franchise and Main Street Advisors, a Los Angeles-based investment fund comprised of LeBron, Drizzy, and legendary music executive Jimmy Iovine are partnering to complete the transaction. The historically rich Milan-based club won the championship last season and currently sits in third place. The team has many famous players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Oliver Giroud.
Rapper Drake was also active in diverse investments, he’s poured money into sports media company Overtime, tech company Wealthsimple, crypto firm Moonpay and plant-based chicken company Daring Foods Inc. This would be his 1st ever big money move into the sports world. He is of course an official Global Ambassador for the Toronto Raptors, but with AC Milan he would be an actual investor in any sporting club.
LeBron James is very active for his financially backed teams.
LeBron James is famous for his basketball skills, body conditioning, and athletism in NBA. But outside also he has made his love for different sports very public. Alongside US sports, NBA superstar LeBron James has an interest and invested in European soccer clubs.
Importantly LBJ’s teams are high-profile and high-performing franchises in their respective sport just like LBJ for his teams. He has an MLB team – Boston Red Sox, who lost the 2021 American League Championship Series vs. Houston Astros. While his 1st soccer team Liverpool also made it to the prestigious 2022 Champions league finals but lost to Spain’s Real Madrid after 90 minutes of eye-catching soccer.
LeBron also owns an Ice Hockey team, Pittsburgh Penguins who lost in 1st round against the Rangers. While his LA Lakers team, where LeBron actively plays, couldn’t qualify for the playoffs in 2022.
LeBron is regularly seen attending games of his teams. Now that AC Milan is also added to his portfolio, he would have to find time from his busy schedule to attend Italian games.
