Anthony Davis and LeBron James

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers recently got swept out of contention in the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets. Game 4 was a complete rollercoaster and even the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers had the lead going into the second half. But soon they disappeared, and the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets took over and ended the Lakers’ run at 113-111.

LeBron James in the game dropped 40 points,9 assists, and 10 rebounds. He was just an assist short of a 40-point triple-double. He even had the best half of his playoff career and tried his best to keep the season alive playing for every second. But the supporting cast, especially Anthony Davis once again failed to back LeBron James up. In the game, Anthony Davis contributed with 21 points and 14 boards but he didn’t live up to the expectations on any end of the floor.

Anthony Davis was in fact even called out by LeBron James and Austin Reaves during the game for not doing his job and putting the right effort in. As a viral video on social media suggests that Anthony Davis wasn’t aggressive enough in the paint, which gave Nuggets a lot many points. In the video, LeBron James and Austin Reaves are seen struggling on the defensive end while AD just stood there and didn’t go in for help.

After Nikola Jokic got the bucket and a foul was called, LeBron James disappointingly looked at Anthony Davis and said: “Where’s the help?” Even Austin Reaves who wasn’t in action in that play came up and called out AD to give something to the team. As Reaves quoted: “Give us something you are stagnant.”

But unfortunately, nothing changed and once again the Nuggets were able to get an easy bucket in the paint. And, this time LeBron James returning to the bench stared down Anthony Davis out of disappointment. As he wasn’t putting the right work in when the season is on the line.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a complete rollercoaster season this year. They made it to the Western Conference Finals after having a 2-10 start. And, they do deserve a lot of respect for it. The duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis gets a lot of credit for that. But now many around the franchise believe it’s time to break the duo and rebuild with the young core. Both the superstars have years left on their contracts and by no means the front-office is going to break a team that made it to the WCF.

So the duo living is a real possibility. But the future of the superstars is a bit confusing. As LeBron James recently hinted towards retiring or maybe changing teams. And, AD hasn’t been the guy he’s supposed to be.

So we may see one of them shipped around but that is also a rare case. Anyways, the franchise is going to have a tough off-season deciding on the future and retaining the young core of the team.
