After a challenging start to the NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to achieve a winning record, partly due to the contributions of their newly acquired players. The Lakers had a difficult beginning, losing ten of their first twelve games, which included two five-game losing streaks. However, they managed to bounce back the season with a record of 42-39.
Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis expressed their gratitude for the efforts of their new teammates, who were obtained at the trade deadline and played a significant role in the Lakers’ resurgence. In a game against the Phoenix Suns, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Malik Beasley each scored more than 20 points, which helped the Lakers secure their winning record.
The Lakers accomplished an incredible achievement, which has only been done by four other teams in NBA history. The Lakers are just the sixth team in NBA history to start off with a 2-10 record or worse and finish above .500
Despite their slow start, the Lakers are now in contention for a playoff spot or a play-in tournament spot. They are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference standings, but their position is subject to change depending on the outcomes of other teams’ games.
The Lakers’ perseverance pays off
The Lakers’ perseverance and collective effort have paid off, as they have managed to turn their season around and secure a winning record. James and Davis both acknowledged the difficulties they faced earlier in the season, with James recalling the team’s “two and 10” start.
However, the Lakers’ new acquisitions have helped to fill gaps in the team’s roster and contribute to their success. James and Davis both expressed their gratitude towards their new teammates, thanking them for their contributions.
“Two and 10,” he added, accounting for the second five-game losing streak in the Lakers first 12 games this year. “Yeah, 2-10.”
“I was just telling AD [Anthony Davis], I was like, ‘Man, can you believe that we’re going to finish this season above .500? After everything that’s gone on this season?'” James said. “We’ve turned this thing around. And it’s the regular season, obviously, there’s a lot more basketball to be played. But to know that we’re going to finish a few games above .500? It’s pretty cool.”
“We pointed to some guys and were like, ‘We thank y’all. It didn’t look like we were going that way to start the season,'” Davis said. “Man, we just kept pushing and kept grinding. And obviously the guys that were able to come in here helped us get some more wins and ultimately finish above .500.”
Despite the challenges they faced this season, the Lakers’ collective effort and perseverance have brought them to where they are now. And while their journey is far from over, they can take a moment to reflect on how far they have come.
