Three-time NBA champion and former coach of the LA Lakers, Byron Scott, has given a vote of confidence to the revamped Lakers team. In a recent discussion with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on ‘Scoop B Selects’, Scott voiced his optimism for the team’s prospects for the 2024 NBA Finals.

Scott expressed, “I love what they did in the offseason. You got to give Rob Pelinka a lot of credit. I think right now he’s Executive of the Year for what he was able to bring to the table.” He continued by saying that, barring any unanticipated injuries, he would be really surprised if the Lakers weren’t in the NBA Finals.

“So I’m looking at that purple and gold, and I said this at the golf tournament the other day, I’ll be surprised if they’re not in the NBA Finals barring injuries and all that that we always know happens during the regular season, but very excited about the Purple and Gold this year,” he added.

Last season saw the Lakers’ remarkable journey from being considered underdogs in the Western Conference to title contenders, even though they fell short of clinching the championship.

Rob Pelinka, the Lakers’ General Manager, made headlines with his bold strategy during this offseason. The Lakers decided to go against the trend and go after mid-level role players instead of signing superstars. The team improved its roster by bringing in talents such as Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes, Taureen Prince, and Gabe Vincent.

The Lakers, who made it to the Western Finals just a few months back, are aiming to rewrite their story in the upcoming season, leaving behind the shadow of the Westbrook era.

One cannot discuss the Lakers’ future without talking about their star player, LeBron James. At 38, LeBron, with an average of 28.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in the last season, continues to prove his dominance in the league. If LeBron and Anthony Davis remain injury-free, the Lakers might be the team to beat in the West in 2024.

As the Lakers move forward, while LeBron remains a central figure, the team is increasingly looking at its younger superstar, Davis, and emerging talent Austin Reaves to take the lead. At 30, Davis is in his prime, and the expectations from him have never been higher.

Rob Pelinka’s offseason efforts indicate a clear intention: The Lakers are aiming for the top slot. As the new season starts, it remains to be seen if the Lakers can achieve this goal and live up to the expectation and their illustrious legacy.
