The Los Angeles Lakers revamped their roster at the trade deadline and added to their depth. It seems to have paid off as the Lakers are 4-1, post the deadline. They’ve beaten the Golden State Warriors twice and the New Orleans Pelicans, and added to their winning tally with a gritty win against the Dallas Mavericks on the road.

In a marquee matchup consisting of LeBron James and Luka Doncic alongside Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, the game certainly did not disappoint. The Lakers erased a 27-point deficit and won their third straight game. James, on the other hand, was seen limping out of the arena. This was perhaps because James injured his foot in the third quarter and said, “I heard a pop.” Nevertheless, LeBron continued playing and finished the game with 25 points and 8 assists. He explicitly mentioned in the post-game press conference that his ankle was only a “little sore” and there was nothing worth worrying.

James went on to add that he doesn’t plan to sit out going ahead as every single game matters for the Lakers. Lakers coach Darvin Ham mentioned that LeBron was feeling better and would be evaluated tomorrow. However, LeBron’s status for the game vs Grizzlies is questionable.

The Los Angeles Lakers created history at the American Airlines Center on Sunday. They erased a 27-point deficit and emerged victorious. This is the biggest comeback win of the 2022-23 season so far. It also happened to be the second-highest number of points they’ve overcome to win a game in franchise history. The previous occurrence of a comeback of more than 27 points was in 2002, against the same team.

Anthony Davis topped the Lakers’ box score with 30 points and 15 rebounds. LeBron James tallied 26 points and 8 rebounds, but the unsung hero of the game was newcomer Jared Vanderbilt. The Lakers acquired Vanderbilt in a blockbuster 3-team trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves which also involved former PG Russell Westbrook. Vanderbilt put up 15 points and 17 rebounds alongside 4 steals.

The Lakers were 21-48 in the second quarter but the turnaround that followed was impressive. Vanderbilt also had 8 offensive rebounds, which made up for the Lakers’ poor shooting from beyond the arc. It will be interesting to see how they proceed from here as their road trip consists of games vs the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder.
