The move to acquire Wood follows clear requests from Anthony Davis, another star of the team, to improve the center position. Davis, who primarily shouldered the responsibilities as the center in the previous season, emphasized the need for additions to the front office.

According to insider reports, Davis expressed his desire for additional support at the center, to minimize his playtime in the role and to preserve his fitness levels for the 2023-24 season. The data from Cleaning the Glass indicates that Davis occupied the center position for an impressive 99% of his game time last season.

The Lakers management, under Rob Pelinka, has always tried to align the roster strategies with the insights and needs of their star players. Following Davis’ suggestion, they have now brought in not only Christian Wood but also the towering Jaxson Hayes to provide depth and variation to the center position.

Wood, 27, joins the Lakers as they are in the middle of revamping their strategy after falling short of winning the championship by eight wins the previous season. With the inclusion of Wood and others, the Lakers are assembling a solid team, ready to compete for the top in the upcoming season.
