LeBron James is officially 39 years old as of today. The oldest player in the league played against the Minnesota Timberwolves on his birthday. On the occasion, he ended up bringing out an iconic celebration.

Before the game started, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar decided to re-enact a previously iconic celebration. Today being a special day for him, he was justified to do so. Born on December 30th, 1984, the now 39-year-old was celebrating his birthday on the court. So, to bring back that celebration proved to be apt for the occasion. The Kid from Akron happens to be the highest scorer in the league all time. He spread liberal amounts of chalk on his right hand and blew them into the air with both hands to complete the celebration.

The game against the Timberwolves did not culminate in a perfect birthday celebration. The Lakers lost 106-108 to the Western Conference-leading Timberwolves. Leading up to the game, both Lakers superstars were listed as questionable with some knocks. However, Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 33 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. LeBron James added 26 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists.

After last year’s All-NBA showing, fans were waiting to see how the oldest player in the league would fare entering his 21st season. In comparison, no player in their 21st season has averaged more than 7.4 points per game. James has so far just shattered that record with 25.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists this season.

He has been so dominant, that many are calling him to be in the MVP conversation. The only thing hurting his MVP votes is the current state of the Lakers. They are currently 17-16 and only in the Play-in conversation. The Lakers were supposed to be in the top spots of the Western Conference.

With James having a stellar season, hopefully, he can convert it into a stellar season for his team as well. That is what fans would like to see too, as the oldest player in the league continues to be the face of the NBA.
