The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers 123-109 last Saturday to win the NBA Cup and the NBA’s first in-season tournament. The Lakers will raise a championship banner from the NBA In-Season Tournament.

Although it was first unclear if LA would fly a banner for the competition, they ultimately decided to do so. Against this backdrop, one of the old videos surfaced during LeBron James‘ discussion of Shaquille O’Neal and his remarks about raising the banner.

On December 18, the banner is going to be hung at Crypto.com Arena. Additionally, it will look different since the banner is not the same as an actual NBA Finals banner. The Los Angeles Lakers won the championship in 2020 when James signed with them during the 2018–19 free-agency period. Speaking in the Road Trippin interview, LeBron attributed his victory to the coaching he got from Shaquille O’Neal, a former player for the Lakers.

LeBron James said,

Shaq is a hard a** on everybody. I remember one of his quotes he was like ‘you are not a Laker until you have a banner in the stadium’.

In addition, he talked about the pressure Shaq put on him to perform well on the court.

In the end, the NBA In-Season Tournament proved to be an achievement. It gave players, coaches, and fans great excitement at the beginning of the season. The Lakers’ attention is now back on the season and getting ready to contend. The ultimate objective is an NBA championship, which they haven’t achieved since 2020.
