In light of recent events, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James confirms that he is interested in owning a franchise if the NBA plans on extending it to the city of Las Vegas.
The Lakers superstar suggests that owning a team in Las Vegas makes sense from a business perspective, especially with the trend of various sports leagues expanding to the city, including Formula One. This move may hint at LeBron’s desire to leave a significant mark on the league, possibly surpassing Michael Jordan‘s legacy. It’s also seen as a way to avoid the same mistakes that Jordan made after his retirement when he took on a basketball executive role in Charlotte.
LeBron supports his choice of Las Vegas as an expansion option with factual evidence, pointing to the successes of other sports leagues in the city as compelling examples. He said, “Obviously you have the Raiders here, you have the (Golden Knights) here, you have the Aces here. You got F1 coming very soon. All-Star Weekend has been here a few times. You’ve got the NBA Summer League. … I think adding an NBA franchise here would just add to the momentum that’s going on in this town.”
The 19-time All-Star also believes that it’s all about a matter of time before a potential expansion to the city of Las Vegas can happen. With regard to this James also made a plea to the commissioner of the NBA Adam Silver about an expansion.
He stated in a media interaction saying, “I would love to bring a team here at some point, That would be amazing. I know Adam is in Abu Dhabi right now, I believe. But he probably sees every single interview and transcript that comes through from NBA players. So, I want the team here, Adam. Thank you.”
