LeBron James creates history by beating Karl Malone for most 20-point performances

LeBron James

LeBron James and the Lakers were handed their 5th consecutive defeat of the season at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves which saw them lose by 9 points (111-102). Their weak defense and shooting woes continue to haunt them as they’ve hit rock-bottom in the western conference and quite possibly in the entire league. However, even after their recent defeat, there were some positive takeaways from the game.

One of them being a major record LeBron James has now broken, after having a great night in terms of scoring[28 points and 5 assists] James has dethroned former Utah Jazz great Karl Malone as the all-time leader in terms of 20+ point games in the regular season. Despite his age, James continues to age like fine-wine time and again, at the age of 37, he has stunned the opponents with his physical uniqueness while thrilling the spectators. With his 1135th 20-point performance against the Timberwolves, King James now leads the list with Karl Malone moving in at the second place.

Along with LeBron James, the only active players on the list are Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. Anthony is ranked ninth with 796 games, while Kevin Durant is ranked eighth with 804 games.

LeBron James and Co. fall short against the Timberwolves

The Lakers definitely felt the absence of Anthony Davis as they were clearly short-handed in their efforts against the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves made an attempt to get Rudy Gobert going early offensively while Anthony Davis was absent, and he succeeded with six points. For the first time this year, Russell Westbrook came off the bench, but it did not stop Minnesota from going on a 9-0 run.

There was optimism before Laker Nation was faced with the sad reality of losing another game. Austin Reaves was making lovely passes, Russell Westbrook scored 10 points in the first half, the Lakers were shooting 35% from three-point range, and they were leading the rebounding battle 28-24 at the break.

In the third quarter, the Lakers have yet to outscore a rival, and Friday night was no exception. It was an improvement, with the Timberwolves outscoring the Lakers by just three points, but they were unable to close out Minnesota since they needed to win this quarter. The first-half improvement in three-point shooting declined as the averages fell to 28.6 from beyond the arc, but despite all this, there seems an inspiration within the Lakers camp as they seek to end their losing streak and their game against the Timberwolves was a clear proof of this.
