LeBron James had some cryptic words for JaMychal Green on Instagram after the Los Angeles Lakers knocked out the Golden State Warriors from the playoffs on Friday night. James posted a video on his Instagram account with a loop of Drake’s song “Tuscan Leather”, where the rapper says: “Bench players talkin’ like starters, I hate it.”
The post was an apparent response to Green, who had mocked James on his Instagram story earlier this week. Green shared a screenshot of James’ quote denying that he and his teammates look for flopping opportunities in the series, and added a cap emoji on top of James’ hoodie, implying that he was lying.
The issue of flopping became a hot topic in the Western Conference semifinals after Warriors coach Steve Kerr accused the Lakers of playing with “a lot of gamesmanship” and knowing “how to generate some calls.”
James defended himself and his team after losing Game 5 to the Warriors, saying: “I just know that we, our coaching staff and us players, we don’t work on flopping. That’s not even a part of our game. Our game is to attack, attack the paint. We don’t mind physical contact. We actually like the contact, and we don’t shy away from it, so we’re just not a team that goes out there looking for flopping opportunities.”
LeBron James Eyes Fifth NBA Championship
Green, who started two games in the series but did not play at all in Games 5 and 6, apparently did not buy James’ explanation and decided to call him out on social media.
James did not respond to Green directly until after the Lakers won Game 6 by a score of 122-101 to advance to the Western Conference finals. He then posted his video with Drake’s lyrics and added the caption: “I HATE IT! Started from the bottom, now we here, we made it!” The message was clear: James was taking a shot at Green for being a bench player who had no right to talk trash to him, especially after losing the series.
The Lakers will now face the Denver Nuggets for a chance to reach the NBA Finals, while the Warriors will enter the offseason with questions about their future. James, meanwhile, will continue to pursue his fifth NBA championship and cement his legacy as one of the best players ever.
