LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is not going to stop until WNBA star Brittney Griner returns home. Griner has been held in Russian custody for almost 100 days. In February, the Phoenix Mercury player was detained when customs officers in Russia discovered vape cartridges in her luggage. According to reports, the cartridges contained hashish oil, which is produced from cannabis and is prohibited in the country and her crime is punishable by ten years in jail.

All about Brittney Griner’s detainment in Russia

Brittney Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist who currently plays in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury and in the off-season for Russia’s UMMC Ekaterinburg, was reportedly detained on drug charges in February after Customs discovered vape cartridges in her luggage at the airport.

Last month, US authorities visited with Griner, and while a representative for the US Embassy in Moscow stated that she was in “good condition,” it is unknown when she would be released. The US government, on the other hand, claims that Griner was illegally detained and unfortunately, there is no obvious road to her release and return to the United States.
LeBron James speaks on bringing the WNBA Star back to her country

LeBron James resorted to Twitter to request that authorities to assist Griner. The ‘Uninterrupted’ brand ambassador sent a message to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, urging them to intervene. LeBron has already joined the Boston Celtics in showing his support for Griner. The Boston team wore t-shirts with the slogan “WE ARE BG” on Saturday. “#WEAREBG,” the Lakers forward captioned the video on his Instagram Story. The pressure on the government is increasing as more athletes, like James and teams, like Celtics speak out on the situation.

It’s encouraging to see that even in the midst of the NBA season’s most crucial period, the players have come together to express their support for Griner. The NBA and WNBA have consistently been linked and are developing together, and this is another another step toward bringing the two communities together.
The most essential thing, though, is that Griner is able to return home safely. There’s no word on when Griner will be permitted to return, but as more prominent members of the basketball world speaks out, the chances of the matter being resolved should improve.
