LeBron James, known for his role as a human rights activist and his outspokenness on various issues, has recently sparked a backlash after releasing a statement regarding the Hamas attack in Israel over the past few days. This statement coincidentally comes at the same time as the US government released a $2 billion in aid to help Israel after the attack by Hamas.
The NBA star posted a joint statement with his business partner, Maverick Carter, expressing their sadness over the ‘tragic and unacceptable’ devastation caused by the attacks. The statement categorizes these attacks by Hamas as acts of terrorism and extends condolences to those who have lost their lives. The statement also says that the company prays for the Jewish community.
The statement reads, “The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable. The murder and violence against innocent people by Hamas is an act of terrorism. The SpringHill Company family extends our deepest condolences to Israel and the Jewish community.”
LeBron James’ former team releases statement in support of Israel
LeBron James’ former team, the Miami Heat, has also released a statement in support of Israel. This isn’t surprising, given the Israeli-born Jewish ethnicity of their owner. The Miami Heat is not the only franchise expressing support for Israel; the Dallas Mavericks and the NBA itself have also issued statements in support of Israel.
Many have criticized Israel for cutting off the supply of food, water, and electricity to Gaza, as well as for the continuous missile strikes on Gaza’s civilian population. As a result, celebrities and franchises continued to express support for the country that has been seen as the oppressor for generations.
Fans have called out celebrities for their silence during the attacks on Palestine last year. Moreover, they have lambasted the stars and franchises for their continued silence as Israel launched a fully-fledged attack on Palestinian civilians who are not at fault.
