“I still have the fire” LeBron James’ ex-teammate Norris Cole gets brutally honest on potential NBA return

Norris Cole and Patrick McCaw
Patrick McCaw’s name is remarkably prominent in recent Golden State Warriors history for someone who featured in all 128 games for the team during a two-year span. Of course, winning two championships with the team and then joining the Raptors — who won the Dubs in 2019 and gave McCaw his third championship ring — is memorable. Norris Cole on the other hand was part of two title-winning teams in Miami.

For the time being, both have the same plan: take the USA call while waiting for the NBA call. McCaw and Cole have been named to USA Basketball’s team for the FIBA AmeriCup tournament, which begins on Friday in Recife, Brazil. The tournament goes through September 11, or roughly two weeks before NBA training camps begin, and both Patrick McCaw and Norris Cole are hoping for two things from these games: a gold medal and a return to the league.
Patrick McCaw and Norris Cole’s possible comeback

“I think it’s more about representing the United States right now,” McCaw said. “I’d like to return to the NBA.” I understand it’s a process. And I know that one day, whether it’s next week, next month, or next year, when it’s supposed to happen, it will happen. But right now, I’m just focusing on this USA, wearing these three letters, giving my all to this team, and representing the United States of America.
McCaw has only played in five NBA games in the last two and a half years, his career completely ruined by a slew of injuries that he claims are no longer a concern. Cole last appeared in an NBA game in April 2017 and has spent the last five seasons abroad, visiting Israel, China, Montenegro, Italy, France, and Puerto Rico, among other locations.
Norris Cole stated, “I still have the ability.” “God has continued to gift me with the ability. I still have the fire, the hunger, and the sense that I have something to prove, things that I want to achieve as a player. That thrill of winning a championship, the purpose, the goal, the work to get back there, that’s what motivates me as a competitor. And I’d like to have that feeling again.”
They are both at opposite stages in their careers. McCaw, a 6-foot-7 winger, will be 27 on October 25. Cole, a 6-foot-2 point guard, will turn 34 on Oct. 13. They do, however, share many commonalities. McCaw was praised by Golden State when he first entered the NBA and was a member of championship teams in 2017 and 2018 with the Warriors; McCaw then won the title with Toronto the next season, when the Raptors defeated Golden State. Cole also won titles in his first two NBA seasons, both during the LeBron James era in Miami.
Norris Cole won almost every sprint in training camp in Las Vegas and was clearly the on-court quarterback at point guard. And McCaw’s talent was clear, even in a gym full of highly skilled players. He insists that his back and knee problems are behind him, and that his confidence is returning, which will only aid his desire to return to the NBA.
