“Look in the mirror motherf**ker” LeBron James fired blatant shot at Lakers teammates
Lebron James on "The Shop"
It’s reasonable to assume that LeBron James would like to win a fifth NBA title and keep building his résumé in the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) discussion as he enters his 20th season in which he will turn 38 years old. Aside from potentially surpassing fellow Los Angeles Lakers retired star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in all-time scoring, winning rings is essentially the only thing he can do at this point in his career to influence the ongoing conversation about his legacy in the years to come.
It’s a well-known truth that the Los Angeles Lakers were among the NBA’s worst teams last season. There’s no denying that this squad failed miserably to live up to the high expectations everyone had for them, even though they weren’t exactly at the bottom of the barrel. And James made it obvious that teammates who don’t care as much about winning at the top level as he does annoy him and that their lack of devotion to doing everything it takes to get there leaves him lying awake at night in a clip from the most recent episode of his HBO show, “The Shop”.
Is Lebron James happy about Los Angeles Lakers and his co-stars?
LeBron James will be in his 20th NBA season when the 2022–23 regular season begins. LeBron has played for a number of teams in his legendary career thus far, and it makes sense that he has encountered various teammates. LBJ has witnessed it all, from players like Zydrunas Ilgauskas to superstars like Chris Bosh. However, Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis may be the three players who have had the biggest impact on LeBron over his career. Wade, Irving, and Davis have all helped LeBron win championships, and they have all left their stamp on his career.
Lebron’s comments on “The Shop” might be interpreted as a sneaky blow at Lakers teammate Russell Westbrook, who previously claimed he was “okay” if the group did not win a championship. For the entirety of his first season with the Purple & Gold, Westbrook had trouble adjusting to the James-led system in Los Angeles. He is reportedly no longer on speaking terms with James, who has been pushing for the Lakers to acquire Kyrie Irving in exchange for Westbrook and a couple of other players. It was difficult to trade Westbrook, 33, since he chose to enter the last year of his deal with $47 million remaining.
Lebron, in the most recent episode of “The Shop”, made it known that he is bothered by teammates who don’t care as much about winning at the top level as he does, and that their unwillingness to put in the necessary effort to get there keeps him up at night. He stated-“What makes me have sleepless nights is when you don’t have everyone that feels the same way on your club”. He also added-“It’s time when I wish I was a tennis player or a golfer where it was literally like, ‘Look in the mirror, motherf–ker, It’s you versus you’”.
Although LeBron did not specifically mention any team members in his remarks, his point is still quite apparent. It appears that he is hinting that not every member of the Lakers shares his degree of commitment towards greatness. To be fair, LeBron James has a very distinct personality, and it might be challenging to have the same mentality as him. In either case, his words will undoubtedly raise some eyebrows.
