The “Battle of the Baddest” boxing match happened between former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Fury was expected to cruise past Ngannou and face his next opponent in December but Ngannou held his own and went the distance, even scoring a knockdown. While Fury earned the split decision victory, it wasn’t easy.

Many people were shocked when the result from the judges was announced where Fury won the split decision (95-94 Ngannou, 96-93 Fury, 95-94 Fury). A lot of people including Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James were disappointed with the result as they thought Ngannou had done enough to pull off one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.

While Ngannou didn’t find his rhythm in the first round, he made sure Fury knew the strength the UFC heavyweight champion had. He scored a knockdown in round three that left Fury stunned. The fight wasn’t one-sided in any round following round 3. Both fighters traded blows and countered until the final round, where they reached a standstill and left it to the judges to score. Although the judges scored it as a split-decision victory for Fury, Ngannou certainly had his Rocky Balboa moment.
