Los Angeles Lakers superstar and arguable GOAT LeBron James talked about Luka Doncic in the most recent episode of “The Shop”. Wherein he praised the Dallas Mavericks young star for his impressive performances. Moreover, LBJ pointed out important traits of the Slovenian megastar on the biggest stage.
NBA Superstar LeBron James has been in the league for nearly 2 decades now. He has played with and against many mega stars in the league. Also with his record-setting performances, LBJ was frequently compared with GOAT Michael Jordan, the next big thing Kobe Bryant and many more stars. Even new players are tested with LeBron as “standard”. So it is fair to say that the “experienced” one has very good knowledge of the game and a keen eye for the talents in the league. LeBron James admired several players in the NBA, but he has a special taste for some like Luka Doncic.
Open to praising special ones LeBron doesn’t hesitate to show them love and respect. He recently went deeper and singled out Dallas marquee player as his favorite player among the current active players. 2022 has been great for Luka Doncic, breaking the 1st round jinx after 10 seasons for the Mavs and even making it to the Conference Finals.
LeBron James lauds Luka Doncic for his Game acumen
Luka Doncic entered the league after strong performances in Europe. Winning everything possible in Europe, he tried his luck in the NBA draft. But he remained equally dominant and won the Rookie of the Season award, and improved on his performances in the league. LeBron James pointed out some of Luka’s talents those makes him special.
After another incredible season, Luka has earned a lot of praise from everybody in the league, but LeBron calling him “favorite” could be the highest praise yet for the star. LeBron on ‘The Shop’ said, “His size. I mean, he’s gigantic. He’s 6’8” – point guard. He’s 225 pounds. He has the ball on a string and more importantly, his vision.”
22 years old star has been a generational talent and received huge praises from the king before. Just like LeBron, Luka has achieved the most accolades and records at a very young age. James added on the praises, “He can control a game. He doesn’t even have to shoot. He will literally walk the ball up the court 10 straight times and get to his spot every single time. Just because of his pace. He knows when he comes off a pick and roll if they’re hard showing or if they hedging or if they dropping the pick and roll.”
Slovenian star was especially great for his team this term, taking on and defeating the Top Western Conference team Phoenix Suns. But his solo efforts couldn’t carry his team past Golden State Warriors. However, Doncic was a contender for the Western Conference Finals MVP award with consistent top-class performances.
Strong on the ball and a sharpshooter Doncic certainly has many tricks in his bags and knows how to beat defenses. He can do multiple tricks on a single possession, and LeBron pointed out the same thing. He said, “He knows I can turn the corner ’cause I got this shoulder, and I know the third line of defense, when I get there, if I just slow down, just slow down and use my pivots, not even jump, just the Euro one-two, this guy’s flying by. He’s flying by every time. It’s the mind,”
LeBron James was clearly in awe of overachieving Luka Doncic as James spoke highly about the three-time All-Star’s offensive ability. James even chose Doncic as his first pick in the 2022 All-Star Game draft. Doncic could be the next mega star in the league, but LeBron’s words will certainly give him some push to perform better.
