“I’m about to get my damn respect” LeBron James half a season away from breaking the NBA’s “most sought-after” record

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James
NBA star Shaquille O’Neal weighed in on LeBron James‘ recent remarks about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In his quest to beat Abdul-scoring Jabbar’s record, James made it clear to everyone that it’s all business for him. Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Lakers forward were questioned about his friendship with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. His response did not surprise those who follow him faithfully, but it did startle others. When questioned about his friendship with the legendary Lakers player, James stated: “No thoughts. And no relationship.” People believed James was disrespecting Abdul-Jabbar. However, the two have been estranged and have not been seen conversing in public.

O’Neal, a Lakers great and former teammate of James‘, told everyone that the two don’t need to be in a relationship. On “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” he admitted to having a strained relationship with Abdul-Jabbar during his playing days. “I and Kareem met three or four years ago,” O’Neal said. “We are good now. To go on a record, my feelings were not hurt that I didn’t have a relationship with Kareem. Kinda motivated me because I felt that, ‘OK, you don’t recognize me, Imma make you recognize me.’ Didn’t have a relationship with Wilt (Chamberlain) or Kareem, and it’s fine. I understand.”
LeBron James within striking distance of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record

Only one individual has scored more points in the NBA than LeBron James — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has led the league in scoring since April 5, 1984. His reign is coming to an end, with the championship passing from one Los Angeles Laker to another in just 1,326 points. “To sit here and to know that I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most sought-after record in the NBA, things that people say will probably never be done, I think it’s just super, like, humbling for myself,” James said. “I think it’s super cool.”
If James does not miss any games, the first target window will be around mid-to-late January. He’ll become the most prolific scorer while also becoming one of the best passers of all time. James is seventh all-time in assists and should move up to fourth by the conclusion of the season. “One of the things that’s truly great about LeBron is that he’s such a willing passer and such a skilled passer,” said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, who coached James for four seasons and two titles from 2010 to 2014.
