Rapper T.I. and LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is in his 16th post-season appearance out of his 20-year career. In this entire time span, James has come across several teams and made several enemies and a few friends along the way. One such rivalry that King James had was against the Atlanta Hawks, a team he faced thrice in the postseason. During one of these years, LeBron James did some of the most heart-warming things. The story of which was told by Rapper T.I.
In an episode of the 85SouthShow, T.I. sat down to discuss several things, his favorite NBA player being one of them. T. I. started off the conversation by saying “I’m a LeBron James fan. Imma always be a LeBron James fan.” T.I. then went on to give the reason for this statement, making it one of the sweetest conversations. This was about his beloved grandmother and the way James showed respect to his family and his loved ones.
He said, “The last Mother’s Day my grandmama was alive. LeBron came to my grandmama house and sat on my front porch, right on Bankhead.” He then added, “[LeBron] ate barbecue, kicked it with me, my grandmama, and all my cousins and shit.”
This was right before the Cavaliers busted Hawks up in the Eastern Conference Finals. T.I. further added, “And that’s the year she died. She always ask me, ‘Where that tall fella?’ … Yeah, LeBron came to Bankhead. He wasn’t a billionaire at the time, but he still left a little billionaire residue. So Imma always be a LeBron fan.”
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers this postseason
James and the Lakers have struggled to find proper form this postseason. The team first went against the Memphis Grizzlies in Round 1 of the playoffs, beating the rivals 4-2. The series was a rollercoaster, with the Lakers winning one game and the Grizzlies another. Eventually, the Morant-led side succumbed to the pressure, though they highlighted some loopholes in the Lakers’ game.
After beating the Grizzlies, the Lakers then advanced to the Western Conference Semi-Finals, going against the defending Champions, the Golden State Warriors. A fight against the Warriors was never going to be an easy task. The Lakers managed to get a close win in Game 1 against the Warriors. It was a game that was close throughout and it could have gone either way. In Game 2, the Lakers suffered a blowout loss to the Warriors as their star players lacked luster.
Their dependence on Anthony Davis and LeBron James highlighted their helplessness. While LeBron James performed, scoring 23 points, Davis scored a tragic 11 points in the entire game. Davis has never been able to score 20+ points in consecutive games this entire season, highlighting his unreliability.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Lakers plan for correcting their mistakes and moving forward against the Warriors. Game 3 between the teams goes down tomorrow.
