Dwyane Wade and LeBron James were close friends even before they teamed up at the Miami Heat, and Wade had an exciting story from their trip after the 2011 Finals. The Miami Heat lost the 2011 NBA Finals after taking a 2-0 lead against the Dallas Mavericks to give Dirk Nowitzki his first and only NBA championship. 2011 was the first year of four that Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James shared at the Heat.

Dwyane Wade retired from the NBA in 2019 while James is still playing and he decided to share an interesting incident regarding James. Wade appeared on Headliners with Rachel Nicholls where he was asked what James was like in the Bahamas after losing the finals. Wade said – “We already had this vacation planned… My wife and I got there first, Bron and Savannah came after.” LeBron James at the time was not married to Savannah as they tied the knot in 2013, however, Wade and LeBron’s families were very close and were often spotted vacationing together.

It was a shared balcony; we out there just looking at the pool. LeBron came in, looked down, and there’s a pool. He said ‘ How deep you think that is?’ 8-9 feet? ‘Let me see.’ Took his stuff off and jumped in the pool from the balcony,” said Dwyane Wade. Rachel Nicholls had a shocked look on her face and exclaimed that LeBron could have ended his NBA career. Wade continued – “That’s how crazy the time was; that’s where your mind was” regarding James’ mental state after losing the 2011 NBA Finals.

Dwyane Wade’s story emphasized LeBron James’ mental state after losing the finals as he jumped into a pool with no fear whatsoever, but James himself came clean on the loss in a recent podcast. After moving from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat, James was painted as the villain of the NBA, and in his first NBA Finals with Miami, he admitted to his failures.

“My first year in Miami, I was down there; I wanted to prove everybody wrong. And I literally lost myself in the moment. I got all the way to the championship that year and lost. Afterward, I was like, we lost because I wasn’t even there,” said James on the UNINTERRUPTED podcast. He had previously lost the NBA Finals in 2007, and after all the hate he received upon switching teams, he was desperate to get his first title.

LeBron James had a historically bad Finals performance in 2011, averaging a mere 17 points per game in contrast to 26 points during the regular season. James scored 11 fourth-quarter points over the series’ first five games without making a single three-pointer going 0-7. The kid from Akron has had a highlight-filled career, but the 2011 NBA Finals was undoubtedly one of the lowest points of his career.
