The LA Lakers only recently won the first-ever iteration of the In-Season tournament. However, they seemed to have lost the plot completely ever since.
LeBron James and the Lakers are currently dealing with a hilarious comparison after having won just 2 of their games since the New Year. James and company were able to recently defeat the OKC Thunder riding on some incredible performances from their talismans Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
However, that was only their third win of 2024 in 8 attempts. Until Monday, the LA Lakers had slumped to 7 5 defeats in 7 games and had only won twice in 2024. That was a record that put them level with the Detroit Pistons, who made history in the NBA this season after registering its’ longest-ever losing streak.
As the LA Lakers continue to struggle, their fans responded with a range of hilarious reactions on social media. With the franchise having won the joint-most NBA championships in league history alongside Boston Celtics with 17, there is no doubt that such results were always bound to lead to trolling on the internet.
That is exactly what has happened, with one fan hilariously claiming that just like the Detroit Pistons, even the LA Lakers were a ‘poverty franchise.’ The results have led to constant speculation about a shakedown, with Darvin Ham also expected to be in the hot seat for the time being.
The franchise is bound to make large-scale changes in the coming time, and it will be interesting to see who ends up leaving, as the Lakers aim to mount a comeback for the season.
The LA Lakers are in a similar position as last season
The Lakers’ struggles post the 2020 Championship have generally revolved around the inability of their stars to gel together. Fans seem to have finally run out of patience, especially in the wake of the poor start to 2024.
A number of reactions were apparent, with most claiming that the team should end up making big changes:
That is exactly what has happened yet again. Despite the talent apparent in their ranks, the likes of Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and even Anthony Davis have been underwhelming far too often this season.
LeBron James at the age of 39 has continued to be the franchise player, and the Lakers are currently struggling at 10th with a record of 20-21. That is a similar record at the same stage compared to last season when they still managed to reach the Western Conference Finals. Hence, while it is not over just yet, a similar comeback needs to happen in the near future.
