Jeanie Buss, Los Angeles Lakers are trying tremendously hard to find the right coach for the team, who could bring out the best of the current roster. Having endured one of the worst seasons in franchise history, LeBron James would be hoping to turn the tables around with a leader on the side-lines. But according to JJ Redick, no matter who comes in as the Lakers’ new coach, they would not be contesting for the championship.
On ESPN’S First Take, Redick revealed that the Big 3 trio of Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis and LeBron James require appropriate pieces around them in order to bring out the best of the results. The player turned analyst claimed that a new coach would not be enough the turn the fortune around for the most successful team in NBA history.
What changes are required by LeBron James, Lakers in order to contest for Championship?
“The Los Angeles Lakers are not contending next season, that’s not gonna happen. And we broke down all the different trade scenarios last week. They’re not gonna be a contender. They’re pretty much stuck next year…There’s no way this core group, those three guys, with their lack of draft picks, with no real money in free agency. They’re not in contention next year. Doesn’t matter who the coach is.”
Later in the segment, Redick said that the group of players the LA Lakers have is “a bad roster with nowhere to go.” For a team that was once one of the favorites to compete for a championship in the 2021-22 season, this is a huge indictment.
LeBron James, Lakers have a task-cut-out on their hands with plethora of superstars in their rosters, but no one to lead them in the right direction. Will a new coach be able to change the fortune for the purple and gold army? Remains to be seen, but for now all eyes will be on who joins the ‘most-depleted yet equipped’ side as the New Coach ahead of the start of 2022-23 season.
