Sunday night’s 2024 NBA All-Star Game saw the East compete against the West. LeBron James is the superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers. He had both Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic in stitches with his self-deprecating jokes. The incident happened while the trio sat together on the bench.

In his 21st year in the league, the four-time NBA champion has remarkably only missed the All-Star cut once. This season, he was unanimously selected by fans, current players, and the media, all of whom contribute to the All-Star voting process. James humorously cracked some “I’m old” jokes when he took the court alongside fellow Western Conference players.

At 39 years old, James playfully poked fun at his age. James quipped that his first All-Star appearance was supposedly back in 1968, alongside legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Cousy, and Julius Erving. Although Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George overheard the joke, he didn’t crack a smile but Luka Doncic did. This is what James said:

Me, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Cousy, Dr. J... That was my first All-Star game, back in '68, I think.

James’ remarkable longevity in the NBA remains truly impressive. The four-time NBA MVP continues to perform in peak form this season. He averages 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, playing a crucial role in keeping the Lakers’ playoff aspirations alive. With his sights set on a fifth title, LeBron James led the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals last season. However, this year, the team finds itself in ninth place with a 30-26 record, eager to climb back up the standings.

LeBron James hopes to end his career with the Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James spoke candidly, acknowledging that he’s much closer to the end of his illustrious career than the beginning. Despite being 39 years old, James admitted to not having a concrete plan for his final playing days but expressed a clear preference.

James wants to wear the purple and gold jersey as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He said this during his media rounds:

I am a Laker and I'm happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way. But I don't have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I'll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It's a great organization, so many greats. But we'll see.

LeBron James recently expressed his desire to finish his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, emphasizing his commitment to the team despite previous uncertainties. While the Lakers have seen success lately, James’ future with the team was briefly questioned, prompting trade speculation. James is focused on securing a playoff berth for the Lakers and intends to represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics.
